These are photos by Ian Kluft KO6YQ. These were taken with a 35mm camera and developed to CD.

In the center, the food and social area is under the lookout tower frame. To the right, one generator supplies the power grid for the entire site - we used techniques like construction sites and placed transformers near each cluster of stations. |

Just to show this can also be done with less equipment, Nate Dietrich KG6ESJ (center, holding radio) and Ian Kluft KO6YQ (right, aiming handheld antenna) make a packet radio contact with the International Space Station using only a handheld radio and antenna. This contact was just a demo and didn't count because W6PIY had already contacted ISS by voice on its previous pass 90 minutes earlier. (photo by Sean Lynch KG6CVV) |

Joyce Cao Traugott (not yet licensed at the time, now KG6IAN) watches Nate and Ian track the space station. And this photo gives away how we "cheated". The tracking operator (12-year old Kevin KG6ASU) in the tent could have yelled azimuth and elevation angles to us all the time. But since he already knew how to aim the big antennas, he did that to point at it for us. So we pointed the same direction with the handheld antenna. (photo by Sean Lynch KG6CVV) |
